

Flying to Skye
The nearest airports for reaching Skye and the small islands are Glasgow. and Inverness. There are no internal flights to or from Skye.
Getting to Skye from Glasgow Airport
For maximum choice of onward travel, transfer from Glasgow Airport to the city centre using the Glasgow Airport Express Bus 500 in just 15 minutes, alighting at George Square for Glasgow Queen Street Station or at Buchanan Bus Station for connections by CityLink coaches.
Glasgow to Mallaig by train
Trains leave Glasgow Queen Street up to 3 times a day for Mallaig, where connections can be made to the Armadale ferry. Typical journey time is 5 hours and 20 minutes to Mallaig.
Glasgow to Skye by Coach
Scottish Citylink coaches depart from Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow up to 3 times daily through to Portree and Uig on Skye. Typical hourney time is around 6 hours and 30 minutes. The coach travels through to Skye, so no ferry crossing is required.
Getting to Skye from Inverness Airport
Getting to by bus from Inverness Airport to the city centre takes 30-35 minutes. Stagecoach Inverness Route 11 operates every 30 minutes throughout the day direct from the Airport Terminal to Inverness Bus Station
Inverness to Portree by Coach
Scottish Citylink operates up to 4 times a day between Inverness and Portree (Skye) – taking around 3 hours 15 minutes. The coach travels directly to Portree, so no ferry crossing is required. Connect in Portree for Uig.
Ferries from Mallaig to the islands

Caledonian MacBrayne started life in 1851 as a steamer company whose main sphere of operation was from Glasgow through the Crinan Canal to Oban and Fort William and then on through the Caledonian Canal to Inverness.
Today, the vessels and ports are nationalised as Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd. (CMAL) while the ferry services are operated by a separate company, CalMac Ferries Ltd. (CFL) under contract to the Scottish Government.
Mallaig – Armadale (Skye)
