Since 1960, BC Ferries has operated vehicle and passenger ferries along the coast of British Columbia, with 25 routes throughout the west coast of BC. Today, BC Ferries has 37 ships moving more than 22 million passengers and 8 million vehicles every year. BC Ferries’ routes and service levels are defined in the Coastal Ferry Services Contract between the Province of British Columbia and BC Ferries. The contract, originally signed in 2003, is a binding 60-year agreement that is reviewed and updated at four-year intervals, called performance terms.
